This land of temples is also a famous health hill resort situated at a height of 472 ft. above sea level.                                Dumka, the headquarters of the Dumka district and Santhal Pargana region, is a city in the state of Jharkhand, India. It was made the headquarters of the Santhal Pargana region, which was carved out of the Bhagalpur and Birbhum district after the Santal Hool of 1855. Dumka was carved out of the southern part of Bihar along with 18 other Districts on 15 November 2000 to form Jharkhand as 28th State of India. JHARKHAND

After India's independence in 1947, the region was split into new states such as Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, and Bihar. In 2000, a campaign for a separate state by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) culminated in the passage of the Bihar Reorganisation Act, creating Jharkhand as a new Indian state.                                  The old name of Jharkhand is Khukhra or Kukra during the Mughal period. In medieval times, the region was also referred to as Jharkhand, which translates to "land of forests".
